Gold Fields South Deep Twin Shaft, appointed G4eps to conduct a structural integrity audit on the entire processing facility. The key main structures that were investigated were: Stockpile Reclaim Tunnel, Reclaim Tunnel to Sag Mill CV, Sag Mill , Ball Mills 01 , Ball Mill 02 , New Screen Plant , New Thickener No 2 , New Flocculation Plant – West , Eluate Plant, MCCs – South , Outside Smelting Room , Sag Mill Reject CV , Sag Mill Reject Plant , Old Thickener No 1 , Old Flocculation Plant , New Underground CV to Sag Mill Reject CV, MCCs – West, Chemical Stores, Oil Storage Area, Workshop Storage Area, Admin Building, Main Canteen Building, HCL Storage Area, Fire Water Area, Metallurgical Lab, Cyanide Loading Bay, Cyanide Storage Area, Salt Store, Compressors MCC, Evaporators, Compressors, Compressors Pipe Racks, Boiler , CIP Area , CIL Area , Peroxide Area , Peroxide MCC , Old Tailings Plant , Leaching Area , New Tailings , Medical Aid Area, Mill Balls Storage, Smelting Room , Pedestrian Entrance Exit Walkway, Main Entrance Building & Main Loading Gate – Gen Observation.
The report was compiled using the format prescribed by ‘ISO 13822.2010: Bases for Design of Structures – Assessment of Existing Structures’, in terms of the aforementioned standard and Item 3.4 of the SAICE: Standard for Structural Engineering Services, a Level 0 Inspection (Visual Inspection) was conducted of the existing “Industrial Buildings”.
The observations, findings and recommendations of the inspection were categorized in accordance with the guidelines of the Anglo-American Best Practice Guideline (BPG_S003): “Structural Inspection and Maintenance Management (SIMM) Guidelines for Plant Structures”.
The severity of each finding was categorised and actions plans were produced to rectify all defects. Rectification of defect are currently in progress.
