The Thaba Mine Plant Upgrade Project entails an entire upgrade of the existing Thaba Mine Chrome Plant by increasing its throughput capacity as well as adding a PGM flotation plant to the circuit.
G4eps was appointed as the engineering consultants to lead the feasibility study of the project. The scope includes an upgrade to the existing ROM handling circuit, expansion of the chrome plant with the addition of a secondary chrome spiral plant (coarse and fine chrome), new 2-stage PGM milling and flotation plant, new primary and secondary mills, new thickeners and process water plants, and an upgraded tailings facility.
G4eps developed basic plant layouts for existing and new infrastructure using 3D design software from where 2D GA drawings were produced. The final deliverables included GA drawings, a feasibility report, execution schedule and total project cost estimate. To generate an accurate cost estimate a procurement phase was included in the feasibility study where RFP’s were issued to market on all major packages.
